About RactD
RactD was born in the late 1980s and grew up in the early 1990s. From a young age, RactD was drawn to quietly observing the world around them: people, objects, nature, and even the small details of everyday life. There was always a deep fascination with how things exist, grow, transform, and eventually return to the cycle of life. Watching how people see, speak, and behave with one another became a source of continuous reflection.
One of RactD’s most cherished childhood memories was the late afternoon ritual of sitting with their grandfather on the front porch, listening to stories about wayang kulit (shadow puppetry) and other tales filled with life lessons. Reading geguritan (traditional Javanese poetry) was also a favorite pastime during free time.
On weekend nights, waking up at midnight to listen to wayang kulit broadcasts on the radio was something to look forward to. When the opportunity arose, attending live wayang performances hosted by local cultural centers was a treasured experience. The storytelling, the character portrayals by the dalang (puppet master), the rhythm of the gamelan, and the voice of the sinden combined into a truly harmonious performance.
Within the stories of wayang and geguritan, there were deep lessons about humanity and life. From there, RactD’s admiration for art and culture grew, eventually expanding into a wider exploration of artistic forms, traditions, and even philosophy.
Since 2011, RactD has been actively participating in both solo and group exhibitions. Currently, RactD is preparing a new series of works for upcoming solo and group exhibitions, both in Indonesia and internationally. These series will unfold from D’Classic to D’Mono, carrying forward RactD’s evolving artistic journey.
